International Office

The Bern University of Applied Sciences BFH is an international, multilingual university, with students and lecturers from many different countries. It has partnerships with a series of universities abroad and cooperates with international partners in a large number of projects and in research activities.

The Project Day is a project management simulation, where mixed student teams from different universities manage a project together. Currently the universities are:

  • Bern University of Applied Sciences, Switzerland
  • Häme University of Applied Sciences, Finland

Students plan and execute an international project in teams consisting of member based in each participating countries. They have to communicate via online communication tools and make decisions together, competing with the other teams regarding 4 KPIs: cost, schedule, quality and team motivation.

Challenges students face:
  • Managing an international team
  • Making decisions in a stress situation
  • Controlling the costs, the schedule, the quality and the motivation of your team
  • Communicating and coordinating with your team members that you don’t see face-to-face

The Project Day is a very successful event and strengthens the international co-operation of the involved universities and intensifies the students' intercultural competencies. It has been run since 2012.
