The Bern University of Applied Sciences BFH is an international, multilingual university, with students and lecturers from many different countries. It has partnerships with a series of universities abroad and cooperates with international partners in a large number of projects and in research activities.
The International Office team had the great pleasure of welcoming 21 incoming exchange students and 5 Double Degree Students from Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, England, Finland, Italy, Japan, Portugal, Sweden, Spain, Czech Republic, Turkey and Japan. We have 20 Buddies supporting our international students with living and studying in Bern.
The students started their Welcome Week on Monday, 10 September 2018 with all necessary information for an optimal start to their study life at BFH Business School. Tuesday followed with a treasure hunt through Bern, with the main objective: finding out more about Bern as a team. All teams displayed outstanding creativity, so that the International Office awarded two prizes, 1st place and the runner up for the most creative team.
The week closed off with a networking challenge at the BBQ on Friday, sensitizing our locals to the fact that we have international incomings on campus. We are happy to announce that Jan Björlekvist and Marina Jenk won the challenge. Please come to the International Office and pick up your prize.

We wish all students a successful and inspiring time abroad!
The Study Abroad Fair hosted by the International Office from 14th May to 18th May was designed a little differently this semester. During the whole-week exhibition, students had the chance to get to know about and become familiar with their international exchange options at BFH Business School. For the first time, we included an Info Session from students for students, where students who have already experienced international exchange spoke about their impressions. This was an incredibly motivating session, providing a lot of insight in an actual semester abroad.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank our students for hosting this Info Session. Further, we would also like to say thank students for your feedback. We are very happy to announce the winner of our Lucky Draw, Ms. Luana Bichsel. She received a voucher from Orell Füssli.

After a snowy cold weekend, we started the week on Monday afternoon with a cozy Glühwein Apero on campus. As a thank you for all the support during 2017, the International Office invited all students and staff to join us for some hot drinks to warm up. Cookies, “Butterstängeli” and Christmas music created a perfect Christmas mood. It was a wonderful evening, where Swiss students, international students and staff could chat with each other. We are looking forward to working with you in the next year and wish all a nice Christmas time.
At our Christmas Kick-Off event last Thursday, our international students experienced a typical Swiss Christmas tradition. To be specific; in a team the students were able to let their creative nature take its course to bake their "Grittibänz-Dream-Team". A "Grittibänz" is a traditional Swiss figure also called a Christmas "Bread Man". In Switzerland you usually have them for 6th December, which is the feast of St. Nicholas. Each student participated with one figure, which didn't necessarily have to be a "man" however, before enjoying the self-made Grittibänz, there was a vote for the best Dream-Team. Chin-Fu Lin (Frank), Chieh-Yu Liu (Keri) and Wan-Hua Chen (Anna) as the winner team received an advent calendar on time to open the first door the day after. Besides the various creative figures, it was a fun evening setting the Christmas mood.
The Study Abroad Fair hosted by the International Office on 24 October 2017 was well attended. This event is held once a semester and it is a super event for students to find out and to discuss all their study abroad options. We are also very happy to announce the winner of our Study Abroad Fair competition, Mr Nils Schenk received a travel kit as well as a voucher from Transa for his exchange abroad.

This October, INU had the pleasure of hosting a delegation from University West in Trollhätten, Sweden. Four lecturers from the School of Business, Economics and IT along with representatives from the BFH Business School met to explore possible areas of research and cooperation. Rather than the usual stale environment of a meeting room, the participants took a long walk through the Bernese Oberland to discuss their thoughts and ideas. In doing so they were able to take in the scenery, get to know each other and find out more about their mutual academic interests. It proved to be a very productive outing - not to mention extremely pleasant. The conclusions of the “walking meeting” were further developed back at INU. This has led to specific project plans in the areas of sustainability, nudging, gamification and virtual reality. More meetings are planned and INU is pleased to have gained a further strong and interesting partner especially where international cooperation is concerned.

We are also very happy to announce that Hetti won the prize for the best savoury dish – Satay Ayam and Nasi Goreng and Juan-Carlos, Nicolas, Janik & Martin won the prize for the best sweet dish – Cream Pie.
